Digital projection

Few people can be unaware that a great many communcation systems have been revolutionised by the change from analogue to digital technology. Nowhere is this more apparent than in photography. Though many diehards have stuck with using film and slide through thick and thin, there is no doubt that their days are numbered.

Arguments about comparative quality, cost, effectiveness and ease of use have raged back and forth, but the inexorable march of progress have made the arguments pointless. The fact is that Kodak is withdrawing from film manufacture, there are virtually no serious photo-processing laboratories still trading and new slide projectors are no longer available.

Talking to lecturers, it is becoming clear that as soon as they embrace the digital revolution, they discover its many benefits in terms of reliability, quality and adaptability and are usually overnight ambassadors for digital projection.

Hence, it is apparent that it is not a question of if but when for societies to consider re-equipping. There are many options and it doesn't have to be very complicated or expensive. The key is to tap into the resources you already have (members and venues with experience and equipment) and not to be afraid to ask for advice. As you might expect, NADFAS is already prepared to answer most of your questions authoritatively, both nationally and at area level.

Finally, you wouldn't be reading this if it were not for digital electronics! Best of luck.
