Fees and Expenses

Fees

Societies pay a per capita affiliation fee to NADFAS, currently £10.60 per member. They also pay a much smaller fee to the SW area, currently 25p per member. These levies provide the funds to run NADFAS House and the Area organisation respectively. These are hugely supplemented from money raising activities by NADFAS and to a much lesser extent by the area team.

Lecturers pay a fee of £104 per annum to be on the directory which is maintained by the education department and circulated to all societies. There are currently approximately 180 lecturers on the directory and they have to undergo a rigorous selection process before being accepted. There is an annual directory meeting at which all lecturers are available to programme secretaries so that they can make an informed selection for their society programmes. The ADM also provides an opportunity for new lecturers to trail their wares.

Expenses

Each society pays a fares pool levy to NADFAS (currently £110 per annum) from which a contribution towards society committee members' travel expenses is provided. NADFAS recommends appropriate levels of expenses for attendance at national meetings and events, as follows: -

Mileage allowance (where car transport is necessary)
40p per mile
Bed & breakfast
£25
Dinner, bed & breakfast (visiting lecturers)
£30
Max overnight accommodation (London)
£80
Max overnight accommodation (provinces)
£60

It is emphasised that travel should be by train where ever practicable, and expenses would normally be for the lowest advance booking fare reasonable.

Grants

There are two funds maintained by NADFAS which will provide a contribution to projects promoting the aims of NADFAS (especially encouraging the arts in the community). Typically, the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund (named after the founder of NADFAS) and the Britcher Furlong Bequest will give matching funds up to £500 towards a Young Arts, Heritage Conservation or Church Recording project. For more information on grants, contact the Area Chairman in the first instance. The Finance Director of NADFAS, Graham East, is also very willing to discuss grants and is happy to receive telephone calls on the subject (020 7430 564030 extn 257)
