Continuity and Change inTwentieth Century Art
NADFAS SW Area Certificate Course in Art History in association with the University of Plymouth
October 2008 to February 2009
The art of the twentieth century is commonly understood to depend upon notions of radical reform and rebellion. From Cubism to Abstract Expressionism, from Pop Art to the White Cube, we like to think of the twentieth century as the ultimate era of discovery, the shock of the new. Yet artists working within this rapidly changing institutional and cultural milieu, looked backwards as well as forwards to inscribe their art with references to what had gone before. This Course aims to investigate both the continuity and change in this most vibrant period.
This Course may be taken for credits towards a Certificate in Art History with written work or simply for pleasure It is not a requirement to produce coursework unless you wish to gain credits. Details are given overleaf.
Students enjoy full library membership and free admission to the University’s Art History Lectures on Monday evenings during the Autumn Term.
All students must be members of NADFAS.
