South West Area Visit to Heligan

Thanks to the generosity of Peter Stafford, Managing Director of The Lost Garden of Heligan, near St Austell, Cornwall, members from south west societies’ committees and the area committee enjoyed free entry to Heligan Garden. They also had a superb introductory talk about the origins of the garden and Peter’s involvement, and a tour around the Northern Gardens, showing off some enormous specimens of flowering rhododendrons. Sudden Oak Death Syndrome has attacked a few of their shrubs, but others appeared resistant to the disease. Afterwards many went to the Italian Garden and the Jungle region. The glorious sunshine helped to make this a memorable day.
